The Cuttings
The glamour began for Old Fort in the 1920s when American James Cox Brady won the property in a card game. Brady sadly died shortly thereafter but his widow remarried a worldly character with the unusual name of Suydam Cutting and the house began a new and vibrant phase.
The Cuttings were famous world travelers. Mrs. Cuttings was the first Western woman in Tibet and she returned with a pair of Lhasa Apsos that the Dali Llama. The Cuttings were famous for entertaining at the Old Fort under giant Tibetan tents with servants dressed in Indian Madras uniforms.
